BLACKBURN OSTEOPATHY

How and What We Treat

What is Osteopathy? – Osteopathic Medicine focuses on the musculoskeletal system and its importance in the health of the individual.

Osteopaths apply the philosophy of treating the whole person to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injuries and illness using manual and physical therapies.

Current research suggests that a multi-modal approach (eg: manipulative therapy, exercise and education) provides better outcomes than a single therapy approach. Osteopathic treatment has a multi-modal focus with the ‘hands on’ approach being accompanied by exercise instruction and rehabilitation regimes, appropriate use of medication, and ergonomic advice, dietary modification and counseling when necessary.

What do we treat? – We treat people of all ages from newborn babies and pregnant women, through to school children, athletes, adults and seniors. Common conditions can include acute and chronic low back pain, sciatica, neck pain, whiplash injury, headaches and migraines, pregnancy related back and pelvic pain, sports injuries, muscle and tendon injuries such as rotator cuff, plantar fasciitis, golfers and tennis elbows. We can also help with more diverse complaints such as colic in babies and mobility issues with seniors.
