Practitioner Profile for Philip Tehan

Philip qualified as a physiotherapist in 1971, worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne for a year and then went to London, U.K., to study Osteopathy graduating in 1975.

His treatment approach to musculoskeletal conditions is based on his training and experience as both an Osteopath and a Physiotherapist. Over a 30 year period Philip has been involved with teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students at La Trobe, RMIT and Victoria Universities in Melbourne. He currently holds the appointments of Adjunct Associate Professor, School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia and Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, College of Allied Health, Oklahoma University Health Science Centre, Oklahoma, USA. Philip, as co-author, has recently completed the third edition of a manipulation text book which is used as a recommended text in both Australian and overseas universities.

The health professions are highly represented in Philip’s family. His wife, Jill, works as a physiotherapist with children who have disabilities and his third son, Alastair, qualified as an Osteopath at the end of 2008. When not teaching or treating patients, Philip spends his time being the Victorian member of the Osteopathy Board of Australia, playing golf, relaxing a Blairgowrie or barracking for Collingwood with his four sons.
